This video contains welcome and formal closing by University President Dr. Sheila A. Brown followed by greetings from the Mount Saint Vincent University community and Black Nova Scotian community groups including; the African United Baptist Association of Nova Scotia, the Black Cultural Society of Nova Scotia, the Provincial Baptist Youth Fellowship, the Council on African Canadian Education, the African Canadian Studies Division, Nova Scotia Department of Education and Culture and the Organizing Committee and Nova Scotia Pathways to Freedom ’98. Parks’ candidacy was presented by Daurene Lewis.

This special ceremony fell on the 125 anniversary of the University and was intended to celebrate the university's role in the community. This convocation was performed solely to honour Rosa Parks, who was awarded the Honourary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (D.H.L.). Parks’ visit was in conjunction with Pathways to Freedom, a program of the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development. Pathways to Freedom is a program that follows the Underground Railroad and the Sixties freedom bus routes through the United States into Canada. 1998 was the first time Nova Scotia hosted the event – on the Mount Saint Vincent Campus.
